- Any risks of harm towards children are minimised.
- Ensuring no child’s health or development is negative impaired.
- Children’s needs are addressed at the earlier stage rather than when serious problems develop.
- Ensuring every child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
- Ensuing that the welfare of all children is promoted.
Whose Responsibility is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding and protecting children from harm is everyone’s responsibility. All agencies have an important role to play.
A concerned and involved community is also vital to safeguarding children and has an important contribution to make. This includes all residents, businesses and shopkeepers.
It means ringing one of the numbers provided below, or contacting a professional person who works with children, if you have any concerns or worries about a child. It also means identifying gaps in services or information which would improve the well-being of children and families in your area. If you have any suggestions which could improve the welfare of children in your community please let us know.
What do I do if I have Concerns about a Child’s Welfare?
If you have any concerns or worries about a child you know who you think might be maltreated, abused or neglected it’s important for the child that you contact someone who can help. You can ring any of the numbers below.
If you prefer, you can report your concerns to a professional person who works with children, for example, a teacher or principal, health visitor, youth worker, children’s centre worker, school nurse or GP. They will inform Islington Children’s Services Contact Team. All referrals will be treated seriously whatever the source.
The City of London Academy Islington has on-site security present at all times, closed-circuit television monitoring, and a system for registering and welcoming visitors. All visitors access the building through the main entrance and are required to wear their identification badges at all times. Students can be identified by their identification badges and their uniform. Students are supervised by qualified staff at all times on the Academy site, and when visiting places off-site.
