Homework
Homework is an integral part of your child’s education. It provides valuable opportunities for students to consolidate what they have learned in lessons and to prepare effectively for their GCSE examinations.
Homework tasks are mainly recall-based activities, designed to create a strong baseline of knowledge. Research shows that recall practice improves retention, which can then be expanded during lessons to support long-term academic success. Online platforms also make homework more accessible and provide instant feedback, helping your child monitor their progress.
MyChildatSchool (MCAS) Parent App
Parents and carers can access their child’s homework via the MCAS app. By downloading the app, you will be able to support your child with their organisation and completion of homework tasks.
For Apple (iPhone): Go to the Apple App Store and search for “MyChildAtSchool”.
For Android: Go to the Google Play Store and search for “MyChildAtSchool”.

How can you support your child with their homework?
- Check what homework your child has been set each day and check they are doing it.
- Ensure there is a quiet place for students to do homework.
- Help your child by testing them regularly.
- If internet or computer access is an issue then please contact us as we may be able to help with this.
Your child will have one week to complete each task. Homework tasks should take approximately 1 hour.
All students are expected to complete the homework set in every subject. To support this, students may use the Academy library after school, and there are lunchtime clubs in various subjects where staff provide guidance.
If your child does not have reliable internet access or a suitable device at home, please contact us at info@colai.org.uk. In addition, computers are available in the library at the following times:
- Monday to Friday: breaktime, lunchtime, and 3.10pm – 4.00pm
- Tuesday to Friday: 8.00am – 8.30am
We kindly ask that you speak with your child about their homework and encourage its completion on time. Achievement points are awarded for excellent homework completion, while detentions are issued where homework is missed.
