Information about ICT
ICT is a core subject at KS3 and KS4.
At KS3, ICT is mapped to the National Curriculum and is taught in mini scenarios which also covers functional skills. This makes ICT exciting and challenging giving the student an insight to what modern day ICT is and is planned to prepare students for ICT at KS4. Typical units of work covered are:
- Data Handling
- Modelling
- Web Creation
- Presenting and Handling Information
- E-Safety
- Control
- Using ICT
At KS4, OCR Nationals is the vocational qualification which is awarded. This is a challenging, rewarding and current qualification which gives the student a hands on approach to ICT. Units of work are mapped according to industry needs and prepare students for ICT at KS5 and working life.
What will you study?
Units covered at KS4 are:
Unit 1 – ICT Skills for Business
Unit 2 – Web design
Unit 4 – Design and produce multimedia products
Unit 5 – Desktop publishing
Unit 20 – Creating animation for WWW using ICT
Unit 21 – Creating computer graphics
In these lessons the students learn how to use a variety of software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point, Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and many more thus preparing the student for life After school.
ICT will provide students with:
- The ability to use Microsoft Office applications confidently
- The ability to work independently and also in groups.
- The opportunity to create exciting ICT projects using the most up-to-date industry standard software.
- A transferable skill for life.
How will you be assessed?
There is no formal exam, instead you will be set a formal assignment based on the skills you have learnt and marked against the National Curriculum levels for ICT at KS3 and at KS4, assessed against OCR Nationals Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria.
