Aims
In partnership with our sponsors City University and the Corporation of London, the City of London Academy, Islington (COLAI) has a passionate belief in the power of learning. COLAI has developed a vision for an outstanding Academy which will be the centre of excellence in the community with:

Our curriculum aims to unlock the learning potential of all our students and has been developed to fulfil our vision. Part of that vision is to ensure that we create a culture:

The curriculum:
- Recognises the value of linguistic, religious, cultural and ethnic diversity, particularly within our local community and
- Present positive images to our students
- Cater for the needs of all students in mainstream classes
- Recognises and plans for the needs of all students including those with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented
- Use resources effectively to meet the individual needs of all students
- Actively discourage and challenge the use of racial, sexist, homophobic and personal abuse, graffiti and attacks.
The curriculum therefore ensure that all students:
- Have an education that enables them to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills identified in the National Curriculum
- Have planned opportunities to develop their literacy and numeracy skills
- Have opportunities to develop an understanding of the significance and use of ICT and how it will affect their lives
- Have access to additional opportunities related to the Business and Enterprise specialism
- Experience a planned program of PSHE, citizenship, Careers Education Guidance and Enterprise education
- Experience a planned program of social, spiritual, moral and cultural development
- Receive accurate and helpful feedback from teachers on how well they are doing and guidance on the way to improve their work
- Have a record of achievement which is communicated to parents
- Participate in a variety of activities that enrich the curriculum
- Work in a learning environment that is safe, secure, exciting, and stimulating
In addition, students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) are entitled to:
- An assessment of their needs to ensure specific planning by class teachers and additional support where available
In addition, students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are entitled to:

An assessment of their needs including using pre-National Curriculum assessment (p-scales) to measure progress where appropriate
