Executive Principal's Welcome

At COLAI we aim to provide an exceptional level of care and education for every individual student. The Academy, which opened in September 2008, is a mixed, non-selective Academy, with no religious affiliation, committed to providing excellence in education and opportunities for all.

Of the 3781 schools in England who reported progress data, COLAI firmly reached the top 15% for progress.

Our overall progress score of 0.45 shows that students made almost half a grade more progress across all subjects then other students nationally. Our overall attainment score of 49.1 is higher than both the local authority and national averages.

Disadvantaged pupil progress is in line with all our students, and our students with English as an additional language achieved even greater progress, demonstrating the Academy's ongoing commitment to serving our diverse community.

Our English progress score was over half a grade above the national average while our languages progress score was over one and a half grades higher. Every subject area made above average progress, demonstrating our commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum.

Our Sixth Form students also achieved good results with half of all grades awarded being at A* to B. Ninety percent of our Year 13 students secured a place at university, with many progressing to Russell Group institutions.

Leadership and management are recognised as outstanding (Ofsted 2014) and we are determined to continue to improve to an outstanding judgement at the next Ofsted inspection. Our results reflect the aspiration, determination and hard work by all students and staff at the Academy and I am always exceptionally proud of what we achieve together.

At COLAI, we are totally committed to providing the absolute best for the young people of Islington. We firmly believe all students can succeed and we work to inspire a determination within the Academy for all to achieve the highest of expectations. We aim to fully maximise student success by ensuring that all students are provided with rich, high quality educational opportunities, within our culture of high aspiration where achievement is recognised and celebrated. It is our determination to ensure that all students at the Academy progress, achieve and are provided with the support and challenge to excel.

As Executive Principal of COLAI, I very much hope you take the opportunity to visit us and I look forward to welcoming you to the Academy.
